3:1 Ratio

Formally known as the Rule of Thumb

The 3:1 ratio or the rul of thumb is a general standard to follow when transitioning into solid foods after an extensive fast.

The rule is, for every 3 days of fasting, you will need 1 transitional day to acclimate yourself towards eating solids again. This rule helps prevent one from potentially harming themselves while the body gears itself for normal consumption. Here are some examples:

3 Day Smoothie Fast = 1 Transitional Day

After completing this 3 day fast, the 4th day will be the transitional day. Transitional Day:

Breakfast – smoothie/fruit bowl* up to 3 fruits, med-size portion

Mid-snack(optional) – fruit bowl* up to 3 fruits, med-size portion

Lunch – a light salad

Dinner – salad with 1/2 avocado

After this transitional day, you can add more solids and continue eating as normal.

7 Day Juice Fast = 2 Transitional Days

After completing this 7 day fast, the 8th and 9th days will be transitional days.

Transitional Day #1:

Breakfast – juice

Mid-snack(optional) – mono fruit meal *small portion

Lunch – mono fruit meal *med-size portion/ smoothie *up to 2 fruits

Dinner – fruit bowl* med-size portion, up to  fruits/smoothie * up to 3 fruits

Transitional Day #2:

Breakfast – smoothie/fruit bowl* up to 3 fruits, med-size portion

Mid-snack(optional) – smoothie/fruit bowl* up to 3 fruits, med-size portion

Lunch – a light salad

Dinner – salad with 1/2 avocado

After these transitional days, you can add more solids and continue eating as normal.

*Remember this is just a guide* it can be altered, but this will be a strong guide that you can implement right after you complete your fasting days. The longer you fast the slower your transitional rate should be.
